Good day, fellow Charger Rater 👎🏻⚡👍🏻

Public charging in the United States has turned a corner. We’ve all felt it over the past couple of years, as new hardware and operators have arrived to increase capacity and reliability. But this week we got the first truly notable data to back it up, as JD Power’s annual Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Report confirmed gains across all of its 10 ranking factors.

Although Tesla ranked 4th in the report, likely dragged down by much of the Supercharger network now being open to almost every EV on North American roads, it still scored well above the industry average for DCFC. Furthermore, the dual promise of full V4 hardware and the Supercharger for Business program put the company in a strong position to return to the top spots.

As more and more charging sites light up every week, here’s our summary of North American EVI developments over the past 7 days ⤵️

📊 Sunday Stat: Quarterly utilization is up 4x YOY for Electric Era, which set a record quarter from April to June 2026 without sacrificing its high standards for first-attempt success and uptime. Similarly, both Blink Charging and EVgo’s quarterly reports for Q226 show energy delivered up by ~13% YOY.

A qualifying note is that networks typically expand stall count between reports as well, so dividing energy delivered across a larger footprint than the previous year can show expansion rate outpacing utilization growth. Nonetheless, increased throughput and record-setting energy delivery figures point to charging operators heading in the right direction, assuming they are also operationally efficient and targeting compelling new locations.

🔍 Charging Vendor Spotlight: IONNA

News - Automaker-backed DCFC network IONNA topped the 2026 JD Power EVX Report in its first full year with Rechargeries up and running. The CPO ranked above three other automaker networks - Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging, Rivian Adventure Network, and Tesla Superchargers - to take the customer satisfaction top spot.

Numbers - After finally breaking the century of sites earlier this year, IONNA’s footprint now stands at 1,362 stalls serving 151 locations across 30 states.

IONNA’s first flagship “Beacon” site in California should embody all of the qualities that helped the network secure top spot in JD Power’s latest EV Experience Report | Credit: PlugShare

Nuance - The understated role of Alpitronic in both IONNA and Mercedes-Benz HPC’s high EVX Report rankings is worth calling out again. Both networks lean heavily on the hardware manufacturer’s HYC400 unit, with IONNA deploying the all-in-one charger exclusively at all of its sites to date. Previous public complaints such as interrupted sessions and derated power simply haven’t shown up as common complaints at these new locations, helping their operators to make reliability a baseline promise from day one.

Next Up - With IONNA picking up the pace again in Q3 and the network now effectively a nationwide player, there are several areas to watch in its next wave of expansion. The most immediate is the takeover of Circle K sites, which currently stands at 17, or roughly one-fifth of the planned CK locations. After that, how quickly will new sites with the retailer follow? Even more interesting is the looming expansion into California, which will yield hundreds of stalls and the network’s first “Beacon” flagship location in Westminster, near Los Angeles.

🔌 AC/DC: This Week in L2 Charging

News - An uptick in AC charging deployments this week, with port additions up 31% compared to what we saw in edition 83.

Numbers - 595 L2 charging ports added to the Alternative Fuels Data Center this week, covering 29 states and 5 Canadian provinces.

Notable New L2 + AFDC Additions:

🟠 ChargePoint added 423 ports across the United States and Canada (71% of the week’s total), including 54 ports at the downtown lot on Park Drive in Boston, MA. Another 20 ports also expand the AC charging options at City Valley Amphitheater in Moreno Valley, CA.

⚡ Voltpost celebrated the deployment of a new pole-mounted AC charging unit for residents and visitors in Larchmont, NY.

⭕ Red E energized 40 AC ports at 4 locations, with half of them added at one workplace site in Fishkill, NY. At the other end of the spectrum (play, after work), 10 ports added in California join the Tesla Destination Charger install at Frogs Leap Winery.

🔴 Tesla offered its latest Wall Connector for Business update, which adds 554 AC ports at 98 locations across the United States and Canada. The US gets the bulk, as usual, with 94% of all ports. Encouragingly, 25 hotel sites are included in the US locations, including 10 at the Hotel Verdant in Racine, WI, which either builds on or replaces the existing Clipper Creek chargers currently shown at the site.

🔷 FLO added 20 ports at 5 locations in Canada (3) and the United States (2). 8 ports at a municipal location in Kitchener, ON, is the largest of the week. On the US side, 2 ports at the AmericInn in Roseau, MN, which is right next to another FLO install at the neighboring Norland Inn.

◾ Blink Charging added 17 ports at 3 US locations in 3 states. This includes 3 ports at Cacapon State Park in West Virginia, a state that can always use more charging of any type.

🗽 ViaLynk returned to a New York state of mind this week, adding 12 L2 ports at 2 locations in Commack and Hempstead, both on Long Island.

🔷 Circuit électrique added 8 ports at 3 locations in Quebec, including 4 at the Collège d'Alma.

🛣️ Fast Forward: This Week in DCFC

News - Hubs and hardware steal the spotlight this week, as another well-known network jumps on the ever-reliable Alpitronic bandwagon, full V4 Superchargers enter Idaho, and multiple sites with large stall counts show that almost everyone is upping their game when it comes to availability.

Numbers - 269 DC charging ports at 42 charging locations were added to the AFDC, covering 21 states and 1 Canadian province.

Check out the DCFCtracker.com site to see a map of the latest AFDC additions in the US, which can also be filtered down to the past week, month, or quarter.

US fast charger additions mapped by DCFCtracker over the past 7 days

Notable New Locations + AFDC Additions:

⚡IONNA kept its strong start to Q3 going with 3 Circle K upgrades (14 ports), with the largest bringing 6 stalls bays with up to 400kW of power to Tifton, GA.

🟢 Electrify America only added 2 locations to the map this week but they both represent the network’s renewed commitment to capacity, with each offering 12 stalls. Both are at Target stores, one in Athens, GA, the other in Glen Mills, PA, which actually bests the nearby Supercharger by 4 stalls.

🟡 Shell Recharge opened a notable new location in Sugar Land, TX, not because of location or stall count, but because of the hardware in the ground. Alpitronic HYC400 units appear for the first time on the Shell charging network, which has experienced a tumultuous year, shedding the Volta sites it acquired in 2023 to refocus on DCFC at gas stations and metropolitan charging hubs. NEVI funding could be the reason for the switch, but this adds a seventh nationwide network to Alpitronic’s US client list and will be interesting to watch if more of the company’s sites use this solution in the months ahead.

🔴 Tesla Charging energized 52 stalls at 4 of its own locations, covering 4 states (FL/GA/NJ/MN). No 500kW V4 sites this week, but there are two 16-stall locations included, one in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, and the other in Atlanta, GA. Additionally, last week’s report of a full V4 in Meridian, ID, does now show up on AFDC/DCFCtracker, per the map at the start of this section.

⚪ One Supercharger for Business site to add to the growing list of live sites this week, as Francis Energy opens its 21st SfB location in Midwest City, OK.

🟢 Just over the border from Ontario, ChargeSmart EV opened a site in the relatively remote area of Potsdam, NY. 4 ports at 320kW add to the options for international travelers and those heading to the Adirondack Mountains.

🍁 All the Canadian DCFC action was in Quebec this week, with 4 ports at a Filgo fueling station in Mont-Joli, QC, bringing DCFC up to 180kW to this location. Meanwhile, FLO adds 4 of its 100kW SmartDC series fast-chargers to a retail complex in Saint-Hubert, QC.

📍 After passing 100 sites open but slowing slightly in August, compared to the record-setting pace of July, Walmart EV Charging opened 2 new Texas locations to keep Q3 momentum rolling. Supercenters 421 (Decatur) and 5247 (Roanoke) each get 4 Alpitronic HYC400 dispensers, for a total of 8 ports at each location.

🔌 A new (and possibly first) charging hub for AMPS EV on the ViaLynk network, with the addition of an impressive 20 stalls served by BTC Power hardware in San Marcos, CA.

🟠 ChargePoint finalized activation of dual CPE250s in Orleans, MA, bringing another much-needed DCFC option to Cape Cod. Dispensers are only 62.5kW and not paired for higher power, but there’s plenty to do while your car adds energy. My recommendation: grab a drink from Hot Chocolate Sparrow across the road and take a stroll or ride up the adjacent rail trail, which runs all the way to Wellfleet, if you’re feeling adventurous.

🪙 Recently-acquired Flipturn is the network underpinning the latest NEVI site in Texas, which was activated this week at the Historic Lodge in Sierra Blanca. After an initial burst of activity in late 2024/early 2025, NEVI action in the Lone Star State had slowed to a crawl, but recent activations by Love’s, combined with a couple of independent locations, now bring the Texas open tally to 18.

📝 In the Pipeline - New Sites Planned, Permitted, or Under Construction

📝 In Tesla permitting, new Supercharger filings identified by MarcoRPi1 for Glendale, CA, Nampa, ID, Charlotte, NC, and a massive 124-stall site planned for San Francisco, CA.

⚪ Other activity on the Tesla Supercharger for Business side shows SfB locations coming to Springfield, VA and two ROAM Energy sites in Jacksonville, FL. Big news too from pre-owned dealership chain EV Auto, which is moving into Superchargers in a big way. Owner Alex Lawrence confirmed on LinkedIn that the company plans 7 new Utah SfB locations open before the end of 2026.

🟦 In other permitting news, The EV Infrastructure Report found one of the Pilot-based Tesla Megachargers that we can expect to see sweeping major freight routes over the next 12 months. This one is in Jacksonville, FL, featuring 4 stalls at the intersection of I-10 and I-295.

🪙 On the NEVI side, construction is beginning at some of Wisconsin’s round 1.5 locations, starting with a Tesla Supercharger expansion in Mauston, WI. That site is currently Tesla-only, so it will effectively be a new location for the public charging landscape. Watch the video update below from Jay at WisconsEV to catch up on federally funded DCFC in the Badger State.

🛒 For the latest on the Walmart EV Charging (WEVC) coming soon pipeline, we turn as usual to the Arkansas eTraveler/Wattmart: 356 known locations across 35 states, with 228 in the permitting stage and 121 under construction. This week’s location to watch is Supercenter 4450 in Middletown, KY, which has been on the retailer’s coming soon list since the start of summer and could soon add a new open state to the 20 that Walmart already has in play.

🚧 Construction is underway at new 500kW Supercharger sites, with full V4 soon to be an option for EV drivers in Centerville, VA, and Norwalk, CT. On the SfB side, the next EVIO location in New York was confirmed by the installer, PowerUp Solutions. Suffern, NY, will host the latest site, while EVIO’s founder and CEO, Jake Berdugo, kindly confirmed that the network’s first full V4 SfB site will soon break ground in Poughkeepsie, NY. This is a project that keeps on expanding, so check out the status of all EVIO’s planned locations here.

Nuance - Before fleet EVs comes fleet charging facilities. Beyond terminal trucks, Orange EV also owns subsidiary OptiGrid, which manufactures battery-integrated fast charging hardware based on acquired IP from Freewire’s original concept. OptiGrid aims to overcome limited grid capacity and associated utility delays for clients by using battery storage in its fourth-generation hardware to reduce charging infrastructure deployment timelines.

Next Up - Where this funding lands will determine the most interesting areas of Orange EV to watch over the next 6-12 months. The pace of deploying OptiGrid charging hardware is one, testing whether battery-integrated charging gains industry interest as a way to bypass utility delays and accelerate fleet electrification efforts. Bundled service contracts offering fleet vehicles, charging, and service/maintenance into a single provider could also be attractive to a sector focused on efficiency and cost-savings.
